VoteHelp informs you on the issue positions of leading Republican and Democratic presidential contenders. In this unbiased website, you select where you stand on key issues, and rate how important these issues are to you. VoteHelp then matches you to candidates. The timesaving features allow you to quickly size up presidential candidates and help make an informed decision. VoteHelp eliminates the need for citizens to slog through speeches, debates, candidates' websites, interest group ratings and voting records to find candidates who best represent them.

The website compiles issue positions of the six leading Republican and six leading Democratic presidential candidates. Key 2008 issues include: immigration policy, the Iraq war, national security, civil liberties, drilling for oil, global warming, corporate regulation, agricultural subsides, taxation, the minimum wage, free trade, social security, health care, education, the death penalty, decriminalization of marijuana, homosexual rights, abortion, stem cell research, and gun ownership. Hundreds of hours of research went into capturing the nuances of the 2008 Candidates' positions. Candidates' positions were determined by their speeches, debates, their own websites, interest group ratings, and voting records.

"Our mission is to provide Americans with objective information on how their own views compare to where the Presidential candidates stand on the issues," said Ravi Iyer, VoteHelp cofounder.

"Each of us bases our vote on different criteria, so we designed VoteHelp.org to allow users to quickly weight the importance of each issue to them," said Jennifer Nairne, VoteHelp's Candidate Researcher.

"Research shows that one of the largest barriers to voter turnout, especially for young people, is lack of information," said Suzanne Soule, PhD, another founding member of VoteHelp.

VoteHelp.org also has an optional "personality module" for users who want to add their views of the candidate's personalities to their calculation.. The information is saved so that users can come back and adjust their views should they change over time. In addition to a list of best candidate matches, users can compare their views with candidate views on an issue-by-issue basis using VoteHelp's innovative candidate comparison graph.
