Christine Smith Wins California Libertarian Primary

Libertarian presidential candidate Christine Smith's strong support among Californians and California Libertarians was shown on Super Tuesday when she received an overwhelming victory over all other Libertarian candidates.

(Issues Wire / PRWEB) February 8, 2008 -- Libertarian presidential candidate Christine Smith's strong support among Californians and California Libertarians was shown on Super Tuesday when she received an overwhelming victory over all other Libertarian candidates.

"I am so happy, and so grateful for this wonderful show of support," Smith said early Wednesday, "I'm honored and ready to keep campaigning hard nationwide. All I can say is thank you!"

Smith's lead over all other LP presidential candidates was demonstrated across the state of California: carrying wins in the counties of Alameda, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Fresno, Humboldt, Imperial, Kern, Lake, Los Angeles, Madera, Marin, Mariposa, Mendocino, Merced, Modoc, Mono, Monterey, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Plumas, Riverside, Sacramento, San Benito, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Sierra, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Tulare, Tuolumne, Ventura, Yolo, Yuba, and placing most often 2nd in the few remaining counties.

Winning with 25.2% of votes cast for LP candidates, no other Libertarian candidate came even close to the 3,453 votes cast for Smith. (There were 11 other Libertarian candidates listed on the California primary ballot.)

Smith's 25.2% majority was followed by Kubby (17%), Root (13.9%), Jackson (8.8%) and Phillies (5.1%).
