Gainesville, FL (Issues Wire / PRWEB) March 4, 2008 -- A man displayed a handgun at Santa Fe Community College's Northwest Campus food court at approximately 12pm, noon on February 19th, 2008. The weapon was not used. Santa Fe CC police and the Alachua County Sheriffs responded to the scene at the Northwest Campus.

Santa Fe Community College had recently installed an emergency notification system, Mobicall, supplied by Morse Communications, Inc. of Melbourne, FL. The Mobicall notification system is manufactured by New Voice International and was designed by Morse to provide telephone notification in response to an emergency on campus. The system was activated by the Santa Fe CC police department and alerts were sent to all telephones on the campus in response to the emergency event.

"Morse Communications helped Santa Fe CC design a system that would provide their first responders with a communications tool to rapidly notify students and staff of an emergency event," says, Bryan May, director of sales and marketing for Morse Communications, Inc. "The system performed exactly as designed and provided on going messaging to 772 telephones during the two and a half hour search for the reported gunmen. The open source capability of the Alcatel-Lucent installed telephony system allows for the unique capability to utilize telephone speakers as notification devices," says May.

"Our objective with MobiCall is to provide the Police Department with a central management console to initiate and monitor emergency alerts to various locations and communication devices ... we are off to a good start," says, Tim Nesler, chief information officer and associate vice president at Santa Fe Community College. "Next, is to use MobiCall to activate a siren that is being installed in two weeks followed by broadcasting to building speakers, beacons, and possibly, a 3rd party text messaging service. Our goal is to use technology to create a SAFE CAMPUS for all of our students and staff."

The New Voice, Mobicall, system combines the capabilities of notification, recording, conferencing and processing of emergency events, alarms and manual inputs. With the capability of taking hundreds of different inputs, creating a process for the inputs and utilizing various outputs to voice, text, email, SMS, MMS, and other outputs, the Mobicall system is a unique information and notification server.
