Mike Turner Only VA-10th District Candidate to Endorse New Plan to End Iraq War

Retired Air Force Colonel Mike Turner, a Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress, is the first and only candidate in Virginia's 10th District race to endorse "A responsible plan to end the war in Iraq" -- a new plan that has garnered the support of 40 other congressional candidates, four Senate candidates, two retired generals, and two former Assistant Secretaries of Defense. A former top aide to General Norman Schwarzkopf in Operation Desert Storm, Turner pointed out the flaws in President George W. Bush's approach to Iraq as early as March 11, 2003 (National Public Radio) -- before the bombing began. For more information on Turner's background and his positions on major issues, visit: www.MikeTurnerforCongress.com.

Purcellville, VA (Issues Wire / PRWEB) March 31, 2008 -- Retired Air Force Colonel Mike Turner, a Democratic candidate for U.S. The plan and list of endorsees is available on: http://www.responsibleplan.com/endorsees.

A former top aide to General Norman Schwarzkopf in Operation Desert Storm, Turner pointed out the flaws in President George W. Bush's approach to Iraq as early as March 11, 2003 (National Public Radio) -- before the bombing began.

The Plan's comprehensive approach addresses energy independence, foreign diplomacy, veterans' benefits, and other intimately related issues, consistent with the proposals that have been on my website at www.MikeTurnerforCongress.com.
Turner underscored his support for "The Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq" by saying, "Contrary to what the Bush Administration and Congressman Wolf would have us believe, the surge is not working. It has not allowed us to gain breathing room for a political and economic infrastructure to take hold and the goals keep changing. Our country can either leave under duress or leave at a time and manner of our choosing. I support the latter with a complete troop withdrawal by Dec. 31, 2009."

Turner added, "The Plan's comprehensive approach addresses energy independence, foreign diplomacy, veterans' benefits, and other intimately related issues, consistent with the proposals that have been on my website at www.MikeTurnerforCongress.com."

Turner's support for The Plan lends further credibility to the growing list of endorsers. When fellow vet Thom Beres, former Chairman of the Loudoun County Democratic Committee, endorsed Turner, he noted, "This is an extraordinary year in our history. Mike's lifelong experiences in the military and in the nonprofit community reflect deeply-rooted personal integrity, a dedication to public service, and a commitment to solving problems by finding common ground among diverse groups of people."

For the first time in 20 years, Virginia Democrats will have a 10th District primary election to select the candidate with the best chance of unseating incumbent Frank Wolf. Congressman Wolf has steadfastly supported the Iraq war and the surge. The Democratic candidates are Mike Turner and Judy Feder The primary election is on June 10.
