Whooligan Announces Global Fan Search to Unite Troubled World through Soccer
Whooligan, Inc. believes that by embracing the fervor of rival soccer fans, one can begin to help erase many of the world's political, religious, and social divisions. With war raging in Iraq, recent soccer riots in Cali, Colombia, and calls to boycott the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China , these divisions have never been greater. Thus, during this time of increased conflict, the company has announced a global fan competition, with the goal of uniting the world through soccer.
New York, NY (Issues Wire / PRWEB) April 9, 2008 -- Whooligan, Inc. is embarking on a global search for the most passionate, dedicated, and beautiful soccer fans. Supporters of over 200 national and 3,000 club sides are encouraged to sign up free of charge on the Whooligan website, and represent their sides via photo sharing. The initial search will culminate with the Copa Libertadores Final, on July 2, 2008.
Whooligan's search coincides with increased fan excitement during the Copa Libertadores, UEFA Champions League, and UEFA Euro 2008 tournaments. Whooligan is conducting this search in the hope that via photo sharing in a global community that prides itself on respect and friendly competition, the sport and consequently the world, can move itself toward ending the violence that has plagued it.
The ultimate winners will have the opportunity to represent the company's first product campaign, titled "Uniting the World through Soccer." The product line will draw inspiration from the winning fans' photos and sides and recognize the winners by name on the product.
A community of global fans will vote for photos based on creativity, originality, passion, inward and outward beauty, and civility. Photos which are racially offensive, violent, discriminatory, copyrighted, or pornographic, are prohibited by the community. Please see full details on the search, prizes, and eligibility at Whooligan's contest page.
"Fútbol, Football, Futebol, Soccer, Calcio- whatever you call it in your part of the world- is a global passion that can unite us all, especially in these troubled times," notes Whooligan, Inc. founder Matthew Kane. Soccer matches are the closest thing to a worldwide battlefield, the ideal spectacle to settle differences via pure competition. If there is ever to be an end to the type of brutality seen in Cali, Colombia in March 2008, or Sicily, Italy in February 2007, the energy inherent in the conflict needs to be funneled away from the violence in the streets and transported onto the pitch.
"Soccer is a game that inspires love, joy, and pain and for 90 minutes on a given day brings together millions around the world who seemingly have nothing in common but their common love of the game," continues founder Matthew Kane. Can the global internet revolution allow for a better understanding between rival countries, communities, and fans? Whooligan is committed to answering this question and bringing "the beautiful game" back to the people.
